Decorating the TV Niche

By Diana Young, SISTERS Interior Redesign & Staging.

Many homes have them…the “TV niche”.  What if you don’t want to put a TV in that space?  Need some ideas?

Artwork is always a great addition.  A canvas piece eliminates the glare you may get with a framed piece of artwork.

This niche gets a pop of color from a large decorative plate on a stand.  Niches made for older style TVs are usually deep, so you can have a display that is layered for lots of visual interest.

Ironwork in this niche repeats the black iron of the coffee table and table lamp.  Add some greenery and vases to complete the vignette.

Other ideas:

•Start with a large mirror in the back of the niche, plug in a lamp and place it in front of the mirror for additional light in the room.  The lamp light will also reflect in the mirror.  Next add some decorative accessories with some texture and you have created an interesting focal point.

•Make sure the items you place in the niche are large enough and to scale with the space.  You don’t want a bunch of little “shelf sitters” here!  They will look like clutter.

•Change up your display in this niche space seasonally for some fun!
