I love the contrasting styles in this DIY bench (made from an old coffee table). It has a very transitional feel – which is totally my style – with the stripes against the carved designs in the wood of the bench. What do you think?
Here’s the instructions, if you want to try it out on some garage sale find:
- Give the table a few coats of black satin paint (spray paint will work well for this project).
- After painting, create the top of the bench by cutting a piece of particle board to the the size needed. Tip: when covering the board with foam, cut the board a little smaller than the foam so the foam wraps around well and there are no sharp edges poking through the fabric later.
- Stretch and staple the fabric over the foam and board. This takes a little adjusting, especially when using striped fabric, to keep the lines straight.
- Trim excess fabric and screw the top onto the coffee table from the bottom.
